BEAVER CREEK, Colo., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ — Bode Miller, one of the best-known names in skiing, has officially launched the web 2.0 social network, entitled SkiSpace.com. The online community seeks to be the definitive destination for ski and snow sports enthusiasts around the world. Miller, who co- owns SkiSpace.com, will serve as CEO of the company, which is being launched by PathConnect.com. PathConnect’s founder Ryan Blair, will serve as COO.
Miller approached Blair to launch the site and establish a unique presence on the Internet. SkiSpace.com officially went live in beta on December 1st at a launch party co-partnered with WCSN (World Championship Sports Network) and HEAD USA. Other sponsors of the launch include Kjus Clothing, Sony Classic Pictures, Motorola, Ciroc Vodka, Go Fast Energy Drink and ViSalus Sciences.
SkiSpace.com recognizes that skiing is more than a sport; that it is a bona fide lifestyle. It embraces the excitement of this exhilarating and dynamic sport, which brings together people of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels, giving them common ground. In bringing the ski community together online, SkiSpace.com will unite ski and snow sports fans from all over the globe in an exciting, innovative way, both online and on the slopes.
As CEO of SkiSpace.com, Miller will apply his relentless risk-taking to the business side of skiing while providing his expertise and insight in shaping the unique content for SkiSpace and its members. SkiSpace.com offers users weather updates, vacation planning, equipment sales and ski reports. Additionally, it provides members with the ability to share user-generated content such as mobile blogging, photo uploads, skiing action videos and ski lifestyle videos. SkiSpace.com is the first website to bring all these features together for skiers in one exciting, all-inclusive social network.
SkiSpace.com co-founder, entrepreneur Ryan Blair, recognized the potential for an online Ski destination that will become a super-site with a breadth of communities. “There are so many moving pieces in this industry that you need an online presence like SkiSpace.com to navigate through all the information. The end-goal of SkiSpace.com is to be the premiere online destination for all skiing enthusiasts. There is a perception that skiing is an elitist activity and this will serve as a platform to not only provide a wealth of information to the average skier but to break down that supposed elitist barrier,” he explains.
“Skiing is a sport that’s able to unite passionate people across the globe,” declares Miller. “Its popularity in America and abroad continues to grow and numbers in the tens of millions. I have always felt that the best way for people to learn to ski is to jump in headfirst and just hit the slopes. I have jumped headfirst into SkiSpace and even produced my own video to get people excited about the type of content users can expect to see. This is a site for skiers by skiers and I’m excited to launch it.”
About Bode Miller
Bode Miller, founder of his independent race team Team America, has 25 World Cup wins and begins the 2007-2008 race season just two wins shy of the all time American World Cup record of 27, which has stood since 1984. At 30 years old, Miller is the tenth winningest World Cup racer in the history of the sport. Bode won the Super G World Cup title in 2007, his fourth cup title to go with four World Championships and two Olympic medals, and enters 2007-2008 as the fourth overall ranked ski racer in the world. After an 11-year tenure with the US Ski Team, Miller made the decision in May 2007 to ski independently. “We co-existed and had a lot of success for the past ten years and I value the relationships I made with my teammates and the staff,” stated Miller, “but when they told me I’d have to pay my own way to remain on the team this season I decided that if I am going to pay my own way, I might as well do it on my own terms. The US Ski Teams program is set up to assist 30 to 40 alpine racers each season. With Team America I will be able to solely focus on maximizing my training and race day performance, which has me super excited to get on the hill.”
